EFM-LAB of the University of Cyprus participated in the initiative “Researchers at Schools” as part of the Earth Day 2025 celebrations. It was a valuable opportunity to bring science and research into the classroom and engage young students on important environmental topics.

EFM-LAB presented the EU Horizon Europe project CiROCCO, focusing on Desert Dust Storm Events and their growing connection to climate change. The sessions introduced students to how desert dust reaches Cyprus, the impact on health and air quality, and the need for monitoring and early warning systems, key challenges addressed by the project.

The visits took place at four primary schools across Cyprus. The team used interactive presentations and real-world examples to raise awareness about the environmental challenges facing the region and how the CiROCCO project contributes to solutions.
