CiROCCO was part of a very interesting conversation about the transfer of Sahara Desert dust, a phenomenon which affects Europe every year!
The interview, given by Francisco Javier Alcalá from The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), discussed the project and its focus on developing a new monitoring system to study Desert Dust Storms (DDS), and enhance scientific understanding of their impacts. DDS events are increasing due to climate change, causing significant societal, economic, and ecological issues, such as infrastructure damage and water quality deterioration.
He also discussed about CiROCCO’s aim to improve decision-making in politics and management by providing critical ground data needed for meteorological models; as well as the importance of addressing these environmental challenges to prepare for future impacts.
