CiROCCO Consortium Meets in Athens for the 5th General Assembly
The CiROCCO consortium gathered in Athens, Greece, on 2–3 June 2026 for the project’s 5th General Assembly. The meeting brought together partners from across the consortium to review progress, discuss remaining activities, and coordinate the final steps towards project completion.
The first day of the meeting focused on project coordination, technical management, legal and ethical aspects, and WP5 activities related to impact maximisation and outreach. Partners discussed dissemination, communication, liaison with sister projects, capacity building, policy outreach, exploitation activities and business model development. The day also included a dedicated session on the Cyprus pilot, which focuses on desert dust storm events monitoring.
The second day focused on WP3 and WP4 activities, including testing and validation of in situ measurement technologies and progress on the CiROCCO pilots. Partners presented updates on data pre-processing and synchronisation, satellite modelling and assimilation algorithms, and the StreamHandler platform.
The pilot discussions covered the project’s four demonstration cases:
* Renewable energy systems planning in Egypt
* Desert dust storm events monitoring in Cyprus
* Sustainable environmental restoration support in Serbia
* Modelling of greenhouse gases and particle emissions in Spain
The meeting provided an important opportunity for partners to assess pilot outcomes, identify pending issues, and agree on the next steps needed before the end of the project.
As CiROCCO enters its final phase, the consortium will continue working towards delivering its results, with a focus on operational value, stakeholder engagement, exploitation planning, and the wider use of in-situ environmental observations in under-sampled regions.
